Journal Entry: Sloth and Lust

Return to The Dante Dreams Project

The burden of Mammon’s wolf
the weight of Arnold’s horse…
these drag the poet down
as he writes to flee his demons.

Sloth and lust feed within.
He dreams of naked flesh
“could haves” and “should haves”
and times when he did
the touch of silken skin
the velvet vise of thighs
the Vignola curve of a woman’s back…

Then the voice again….

Does the dream of Beatrice drive your pen?

The poet nods and rests,
dreading the reds of hell
and howling winds that sound again
up from the waters of Acheron.
